Low Carb Halloween Mummy Dogs Recipe
These adorable keto mummy dogs have to be on your table on Halloween night. They are so fun and easy to make. This is definitely a keto recipe you can get your kids involved with. They will love wrapping the hot dogs with the fathead dough and putting on eyes after the mummy dogs are done baking.Keto mummy dogs are a bagel dog that is thin wrapped haphazardly in fathead dough to mimic a mummy’s wrap. Add some candy eyes or ketchup & mustard eyes to complete the look.I like to pack these Halloween keto mummy dogs in my kids’ lunchbox in the days precedding October 31st. They love to get into the Halloween spirit and these low carb bagel dogs sure do put a smile on their face.
Grass-Fed All-Beef Hot Dogs
I prefer to get hot dogs that are 100% beef from grass-fed cows. These hot dogs contain more nutrients compared to regular hot dogs and don’t contain filler meats either. The brand that I like to use is by Teton Waters Ranch. I partnered with the folks at TWR to make this recipe but there are other brands that sell similar hot dogs at the grocery store. Or if you don’t want to use grass-fed hot dogs, just use regular hot dogs!
Keto Fathead Dough
The dough that is wrapped around the hot dogs are mummy wrap is a fathead based keto dough. This is my basic keto dough recipe that I use to make keto pizza and my chicken pot pie turnovers. It’s easy to make and you can prep it up ahead of time and freeze it. I usually have some fathead dough stored in my freezer. That way I can enjoy pizza or keto mummy bagel dogs whenever I want.To wrap the hot dog like a mummy, I like to pinch off a little ball of dough about the size of a golf ball. Then roll it out into a very long thin snake. Next, I lay down the hot dog and start wrapping. The key to making these mummy dogs look like real mummies is to wrap in different directions and do some overlapping wraps.
Can I Make These Mummy Dogs Ahead of Time?
If you are making these keto mummy dogs for a Halloween party and want to make them ahead of time, well, good news…you can! I recommend assembling the mummy dogs ahead of time – one or days days before. Store them unbaked in the refrigerator. Then the day you want to make them, bake as instructed above. Now you and all the kids at your Halloween party will have freshly baked bagel dogs to enjoy!
Keto Mummy Dog Toppings
I put little candy eyeballs on my Halloween mummy dogs. Yes, these eyeballs have sugar in them but you can pick them off and not eat them. That’s what I do. They are just for decoration. If you are 100% opposed to any kind of sugar on your plate, then use a little dab of mustard or ketchup for the eyes. Maybe even a small chunk of black olive would work too!The sugar-free ketchup I like to eat with my keto mummy dogs is by Primal Kitchens. Their ketchup is unsweetened with no adds sugars.

Instead of making them look like mummy’s I just wrapped the dogs completely. My husband and 5yr old loved them and my son asked me to make them again soon!

I just finished wrapping them for a Halloween party tonight, and I could not get them to roll into a long thin snake without breaking in half or into 3 pieces. I was so frustrated I will probably not make them again. VERY time consuming, and I make fathead dough ALL the time for pizza and other things.

I’m sorry your dough kept breaking. It sounds like you mozzarella cheese wasn’t melty enough to make an elastic dough. When this happens to me, I put the whole dough ball in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds. Then knead out the dough and roll into snakes. It will be more moldable when it is melty and warm.
