Meet The Cast Of ‘Inside Out 2’: Ayo Edebiri, Maya Hawke And More Voice These Emotions (2024)

Inside Out 2 features voice stars from the original Inside Out and several new ones.

Produced by Pixar Animation Studios, Inside Out won a Best Animated Feature Oscar and was an international box office sensation. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie earned $356.9 million domestically and $501.9 million internationally for a worldwide tally of $858.8 million against a $175 million budget.

Inside Out tells the story of a young girl named Riley through the emotions that live in her brain, which is known as the Headquarters.

Five different emotions are featured in the movie—Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear and Disgust—who project Riley’s feelings through a console in her Headquarters as she processes her family’s move from Minnesota to San Francisco.

In Inside Out 2, new in theaters Friday, Riley has just turned 13, and with the change in age comes a whole new set of emotions including Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui, which stands for boredom. When the new set of emotions hijacks Riley’s core set of emotions and takes control of her thoughts, Joy and her fellow feelings aim to return the girl to her old self.

Here’s a look at some of the main emotions and who voices each character in Inside Out 2.

Former Saturday Night Live star Amy Poehler reprises her voice role of Joy from 2015’s Inside Out in Inside Out 2.

Pohler’s film roles include the 2004 version of Mean Girls, as well as Baby Mama and Blades of Glory. On TV, Pohler starred in the hit series Parks & Recreation and had a recurring role on Arrested Development.

Pohler has voiced roles in several animated films, including Shrek the Third, Monsters vs. Aliens and Horton Hears a Who!

Stranger Things star Maya Hawke voices Anxiety in Inside Out 2. Hawke’s film credits including Once Upon a Time ... In Hollywood, Asteroid City and Maestro.

Hawke previously voiced a guest role in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

The Bear star Ayo Edebiri voices Envy in Inside Out 2.

Edebiri’s film credits include Theater Camp and Bottoms, and on TV she has guest starred in such series as Abbott Elementary and Black Mirror.

Edebiri has appeared in several animated projects including the films Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. On TV, Edebiri has voiced roles in the series Mulligan, Big Top Burger, Big Mouth and Clone High.

The Equalizer star Liza Lapira voices Disgust in Inside Out 2, taking over for Mindy Kaling, who voiced the role in Inside Out in 2015.

Lapira has appeared in several films, including Cloverfield, Fast & Furious, 21, Repo Men and Crazy, Stupid, Love. She has also starred or guest starred in several TV series, including Huff, Dexter, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Dollhouse, NCIS, 9JKL and Nancy Drew.

Lapira also had a voice role in the live-action dog movie Marmaduke.

Veep star Tony Hale voices Fear in Inside Out 2, taking over for Bill Hader, who voiced the role in Inside Out in 2015.

Hale’s film credits include Love, Simon, American Ultra, Being the Ricardos, Hocus Pocus 2 and Unfrosted, and he has starred or co-starred in several TV series including Arrested Development, Justified and Chuck.

Hale is a prolific voice actor whose animated movie credits include Toy Story 4 and The Angry Birds Movie and its sequel, as well as several TV series including Harley Quinn, Rugrats, Bird Girl, Good Vibes and Sanjay and Craig.

Stand-up comedy great Lewis Black reprises his voice role of Anger from 2015’s Inside Out in Inside Out 2.

Black’s movie roles include Accepted and Man of the Year, and he has appeared in the TV miniseries Madoff. Black has also starred in guest roles in such series as The Big Bang Theory, Mad About You and Homicide: Life on the Street.

Black has had voice roles in several animated series or movies, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated and The Penguins of Madagascar.

Among the other stars who voice an emotion in Inside Out 2 include The Office star Phyllis Smith, who reprised her role as Sadness (above, fourth from left) from Inside Out in 2015; and Cruella, I, Tonya and Black Bird star Paul Walter Hauser, who voices Embarrassment (above, far right).

Inside Out 2 opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
