Pinterest is one of the biggest wedding-planning tools that couples use to bring their vision to life. Whether they’re seeking inspiration for their aesthetic, attire, floral installations, table settings, or all of the above, engaged pairs often load this image-sharing social media platform to identify, fine-tune, and execute their overarching design concept. In 2024 alone, there were 400 million wedding-related searches and more than 2 billion wedding ideas saved on Pinterest.Couples typically search for specific terms, peruse the list of generated images related to their search, and then save their favorite photos to curated boards. According to Sydney Stanback, global trends and insights lead at Pinterest, many duos then share these boards with their vendors, who help turn their ideas into a reality.
Every year, the team at Pinterest conducts an analysis based on the platform's search data and pinpoints search terms that have increased from year over year. They then use the list to identify emerging trends in the wedding industry. After assessing search terms that have grown from 2023 to 2024, the team has determined a few of the biggest themes that will dominate nuptials over the following year.

Pinterest Shares Their Top Wedding Trend Predictions for 2024
This year, nuptials will see a departure from over-the-top, elaborate affairs with extensive guest lists in favor of more laid-back, intimate gatherings that focus on the guest experience. Since the search for “quiet life,” a life of less stress and more mindfulness, has grown 530 percent globally since 2023, Stanback notes that weddings will adopt this desire for a slower-paced, more peaceful lifestyle.
Based on Pinterest users’ searches, couples are looking for simple attire, natural beauty, small guest lists, and natural settings. “Simple wedding gowns” has increased 205 percent year over year, while “natural glam bridal makeup” has increased 710 percent, regarding brides’ looks. In terms of the type of function, more and more engaged duos are considering civil ceremonies (a 210 percent increase) and courthouse weddings (a 150 percent increase), while others are interested in outdoor locales, with terms, such as “whimsical garden wedding” and “small backyard wedding reception” increasing 450 percent and 300 percent respectively.
Vintage Aesthetics
At the end of 2023, Pinterest forecasted that retro weddings, particularly 1960s- and 1970s-inspired nuptials, would skyrocket in 2024. After analyzing growing search terms from 2023 to 2024, the team has found that other eras will also inform couples’ visions this year. Stanback notes that vintage nuptials provide “a timeless aesthetic that will stand the test of time,” which makes it a highly sought-after option for those planning a wedding.
For décor, “70s inspired wedding” had the most noticeable jump, with an 1800 percent increase year over year. Couples are also searching for destination-specific aesthetics, like “vintage Mexican wedding” with a 390 percent increase and “vintage Italian wedding” with a 310 percent increase. For their big day, brides are embracing fashion from previous decades. For example, “vintage inspired wedding dresses” climbed 240 percent over the past year and “vintage wedding rings antique” has grown 430 percent since 2023.
Colorful Vow Exchanges
While neutral color palettes will always be in style, in 2024, more and more couples will paint their big day in colorful hues. According to search data, Pinterest found that “colorful eclectic decor” is up 325 percent since last year. Some of the growing search trends relate to venues (“colorful garden weddings with a 650 percent increase), florals (“pink and orange wedding flowers” with a 200 percent increase), and specific shades (“pastel purple wedding” with a 180 percent increase).
This trend is especially popular with Gen Z, who is looking for multi-color attire, such as “green wedding dress for bride” with a 90 percent increase and “colorful bridal bouquet” with a 70 percent increase. In particular, the younger generation is interested in red, from the suit (“dark red suit” saw a 50 percent increase) to the cake (“red heart cake" has a 130 percent increase).
Gothic Nuptials
On the other end of the spectrum, gothic weddings, defined by dark, moody décor, are also trending this year. Some popular search terms that have surged from 2023 to 2024 include “dark fantasy wedding” with a 1650 percent jump, “moody wedding colors” with a 260 percent increase, and “Victorian gothic wedding” with a 170 percent expansion. “This moody aesthetic creates a sense of intimacy, mystery, and drama, which some couples may find romantic or captivating,” Stanback shares.
