The great thing about these jello shots is that they are so simple to make.

All you need is Strawberry jello, lime Margarita mix and tequila.

The lime margarita mix helps to cut down on some of the sweetness in the jello which I think helps the taste. But if you want your shots to be really sweet, you could substitute Strawberry Margarita mix which will really amp up the strawberry flavor.

What Size Of Jello Shot Cups Are The Best?

Easy Strawberry Margarita Jello Shots Recipe (3)

I always make my jello shots in these 2-ounce jello shot cups with lids*.

They’re the perfect size for serving, can be stacked to conserve space, and the lids prevent any spills in the refrigerator.

How To Make Strawberry Margarita Jello Shots

Easy Strawberry Margarita Jello Shots Recipe (4)

To make them easier to transport in and out of the refrigerator, I set the jello shot cups out on a cookie sheet before I pour the jello into them. This also prevents any jello from spilling on the counter (the red jello can cause stains on your countertop pretty easily!)

To make the jello shots, mix 1 cup boiling water with the Strawberry Jello crystalsin a bowl or large measuring cup.

Ideally, the bowl should have a pouring spout (like this one*) which will make getting the jello into the shot cups a lot easier later on.

How Much Tequila Do You Put In Jello Shots?

For this Strawberry Margarita jello shots recipe, I add 2/3 cup lime Margarita mix and 1/3 cup tequila to the jello mixture. (Then stir again.)

I don’t like my jello shots to be too strong so I don’t use a lot of alcohol.

How Do You Make Strong Jello Shots?

However, if you’re looking for jello shots that have more of a kick, you can add more tequila and less Margarita mix.

Just make sure that the total for the two cold liquids mixed together comes to 1 cup. (If you add too much liquid, the jello won’t set). I do this by pouring both the Margarita mix and the tequila into a measuring cup and making sure that it measures 1 cup. Then add them both to the jello mixture together.

Finally, pour the jello mixture into the jello shot cups.

How Long Does It Take For Jello Shots To Set In The Fridge?

Refrigerate the jello shots for 2 to 4 hours until the jello is set.

You might want to wait until the jello has totally cooled before putting the lids on the jello shot cups. Otherwise you will get water condensation on the inside of the lids. It doesn’t affect the way the jello shots taste, but they look better without the condensation.

How Many Jello Shots Are In a Box Of Jello?

For a 3-ounce package of jello (the small box), you will get 12 to 16 2-oz jello shots, depending on how much you pour into each shot cup.

For a 6-ounce package, you will get 24 to 32 jello shots. You would need to double the measurements of the rest of the ingredients in this recipe to make this work.

How Long Do Jello Shots Last?

You can store jello shots for up to 7 days in the refrigerator (and probably even longer), but they do start to taste a little stale in my opinion.

I usually make them a day or two before the party for the best compromise between getting ready ahead of time and still having them taste fresh.

How Do You Serve Jello Shots?

Finally, I serve my jello shots with mini-tasting spoons*. They’re the perfect size for jello shot cups and most of my friends prefer them to eating jello straight out of the shot glass.
