I love a good fresh salsa. Fresh tomatoes, onions cilantro. A garden fresh salsa is amazing in flavor I think. Usually, fresh salsa is also known as a chunky salsa recipe.

How did I start loving a chunky salsa recipe? My friends took me to try Mexican food at a local place in Cleveland, Ohio. I took one bite of the chunky salsa recipe on the table and that started my love of salsa recipes.

I have since then tried many salsa recipes, but always been a chunky salsa recipe that I prefer. I love the taste of that fresh salsa on a chip.

Salsa Ingredients

Most know that tomatoes and onions are salsa ingredients. To make a good salsa recipe, you need cilantro, lime juice, and of course jalapeño. That combination of vegetables with jalapeño busts with flavor in salsa.

Pico de Gallo Salsa

You could blend a basic salsa recipe together for a smooth salsa that almost sauce-like. Or you can make it a chunky salsa recipe! The chunky salsa is also known as a Pico de Gallo salsa, that is the simple salsa I prefer.

Personally, I like calling it chunky salsa recipe then pico de gallo. That is what this simple salsa recipe is, chunks of tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeños all mixed together with some lime juice.

Can You Freeze Salsa?

One question I get asked is can you freeze salsa? Yes, but only for 6 months. Make sure the bags or containers are airtight. You should still leave the room at the top for the salsa to expand once it freezes.

A Simple Chunky Salsa or also known as pico de gallo salsa is a great way to enjoy fresh salsa. This chunky salsa recipe is very easy to make. You will never buy bottled salsa again after making your own fresh salsa.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium very ripe tomatoes (peeled, seeded and diced)
  • 1 fresh jalapeno pepper (seeded and minced)
  • 2 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • Juice of 2 Key limes or 1 small lime

Instructions

  1. In a bowl mix together the tomatoes, jalapeno pepper, cilantro, onion, sugar and salt and pepper. Combine well.
  2. Add the juice; cover and refrigerate for 4-5 hours before serving.
  3. Serve with tortilla chips and ENJOY.
