Bridal Shower Wishes: What to Write in a Bridal Shower Card | Hallmark Ideas & Inspiration (1)

By Keely Chace on July 1, 2019

At a bridal shower, love is not the only thing in the air. There’s also the laughter of good friends, the oohs and ahs as gifts are opened, and plenty of excitement and anticipation.

Some showers are especially for brides and are more commonly called “bridal showers.” Others “shower” the happy couple together at a “wedding shower.” Either way, you can add to the good vibes of the occasion by adding a warm personal message to your bridal or wedding shower card. Whether you’re inclined to write just a little or a whole lot, we’ve got tips and inspiration to help.

Read on for Hallmark-writer-approved ideas on how to make your bridal shower card perfectly you—and also perfect for a party this happy!

Simple Wishes

You don’t have to go on at length for your excitement and happy wishes to come through.

Examples

  • “So happy for you.”
  • “With warmest wishes for the bride-to-be…”
  • “What a busy and exciting time! I’ll be thinking of you as you make your final preparations for the big day.”
  • “Please don’t mind my happy tears. I always cry at wedding showers for people I love!”
  • “Wishing you all the best today, on your wedding day, and in your life together.”
  • “Blessings to you as you prepare to say I do.”
  • “Just wanted to shower you with some happy wishes!”
  • “Cheers and all the happy feels!”

Pro Tip: Traditional etiquette recommends extending good wishes for a shower, but saving actual “congratulations” for the wedding itself. But if what you really want to write in your shower card is congratulations, then go for it. The goal is to be authentic. (And it’s unlikely that the etiquette police will come hunt you down!)

Funny Wishes

If you prefer to keep things lighter, and you know the bride or couple well, then it’s fine (and fun!) to share a laugh with your shower card.

Examples

  • “Congrats on your upcoming wedding and (hopefully) getting the matching towel set of your dreams!”
  • “There has never been a happier reason for me to buy a cutting board.”
  • “Congrats on finding love! (Although I’m gonna miss hearing all your wild dating stories.)”
  • “Hope you’re showered in love and kitchen essentials!”
  • “Totally happy for and kinda jealous of you right now.”
  • “Better you than me!”
  • “This is the end of an era!”
  • “You better throw me that bouquet. On second thought, forget the bouquet. Throw me a groomsman.”

Pro Tip: Keep in mind that shower cards are often read aloud and/or passed around among guests. If you think your message might embarrass the bride-to-be or scandalize Great Aunt Millie, then come up with something tamer.

To Family

If the bride-to-be is family—or about to become family—that’s definitely worth calling out.

Examples

  • “Can’t wait to have you for my daughter-in-law. Love you already!”
  • “All I can say is, my brother is VERY lucky to be marrying you.”
  • “Remember back when we used to play wedding with our dolls? Well, Sis, I hope your big day is even more fun and unforgettable.”
  • “I can’t believe my baby sister is getting married! So thrilled for you.”
  • “I’ve loved getting to know you, and I’m so happy we’re about to become family.”
  • “This is more than a shower—it’s your welcome-to-the-family party! Looking forward to having you for a ‘sister.’”
  • “Looking forward to having you as part of the family! We’re a little weird, sure—but we mean well.”
  • “It’s wonderful knowing that my dad is marrying someone who makes him so happy.”

Pro Tip: Should you write “love” to a soon-to-be in-law? If that’s what feels natural, then yes. They’re more likely to see it as warm and welcoming than weird.

Gift Focus

Because gifts are such a big part of wedding showers, it makes perfect sense that your written message might refer to your gift in some way.

Examples

  • “So happy to ‘shower’ you with a little gift before the wedding!”
  • “Happy shower! I hope you and Tim can use this gift card for something you need.”
  • “Congrats, Bride-to-be! P.S. Be warned: I blushed a little just wrapping this.”
  • “Love & best wishes, Tara! Ellen and I wanted to give you something handmade today, so we worked on your gift together.”
  • “It’s so fun to share in your shower and give you a little something to help you get ready for married life.”
  • “We wanted to make sure you and John get everything you need for your new home, so we all chipped in on this. Enjoy!”
  • “We’re about to be family, and I think that calls for a little something special. Hope you like it!”

Pro Tip: If your gift happens to be a family heirloom, or if it’s handmade with love, it’s great to mention that in your card, too.

Gathering Focus

Some shower messages are more about the day, the celebration, and the fun of just being together at such an exciting time in the bride-to-be’s life.

Examples

  • “Simply overjoyed to be celebrating your wedding shower with you.”
  • “It means so much to be here with you as you look forward to your wedding day.”
  • “Your shower is one party I wouldn’t have missed for the world!”
  • “Love and blessings to you on this happy day.”
  • “Thanks for making me part of your special day. Let the toasts begin!”
  • “As you look at all the smiling faces surrounding you today, I hope you feel so loved.”

Pro Tip: If the card’s printed message has already said “shower,” or if you just find the term sort of fusty and old-fashioned, here are a few alternative ways to refer the gathering: celebration, special day, happy day, big day, party, pre-party, bachelorette, bridal fête, pre-wedding hootenanny. (Just kidding on that last one.) (Kind of.)

Bride-to-Be Focus

A wedding shower card is also a great place to compliment and support the bride-to-be.

Examples

  • “You’re going to make such a beautiful bride.”
  • “Aidan is one lucky guy. Congratulations and best wishes to you both!”
  • “You’re beautiful inside and out, and you deserve all the happiness ahead of you.”
  • “I know it can get a little stressful as the wedding gets close, but I hope you’re able to just relax and enjoy it all.”
  • “This is such a happy and busy time for you…Just want to make sure you know I’m here for you, for whatever you need.”
  • “You make this getting married thing look good!”

Pro Tip: There really is some stress mixed in with the excitement of an approaching wedding. The more support and enthusiasm you can send the bride’s way, the better.

Couple Focus

For a couples shower, or when your shower gift is meant for both partners, you might choose to spread the love and address your wishes to the two of them together.

Examples

  • “Congrats, Jess and Leo! This comes with heartfelt wishes and a little gift for you both.”
  • “Best wishes to the wonderful two of you for this adventure called marriage.”
  • “I love it when two great people get together. Best wishes, Owen and Mary!”
  • “What could be better than one amazing bride-to-be? How about two? Best wishes, Hannah and Lauren!”
  • “You two have had a good thing going for a while now. Looking forward to seeing you make it a forever thing.”
  • “It’s so much fun showering the two of you with love and good wishes today.”
  • “You two are so perfect for each other. Have fun making everyone else jealous!”
  • “I can’t decide which one of you is luckier.”

Pro Tip: Whether addressing the bride or the couple, just relax and write from the heart. They’ll enjoy your message all the more if it sounds like it really and truly came from you.

When You Cannot Attend

A wedding shower card is still a good way to be there in thought when you can’t be there in person.

Examples

  • “I’m so sorry to miss your shower, but I’m with you in spirit…and in happy anticipation!”
  • “I wish I could be there celebrating with you today. Thinking warm thoughts for you and Steve…”
  • “So bummed I couldn’t be at your shower. Post lots of pictures!”
  • “Just wanted to send a little gift and lots of love for your shower. Wish I were there with you.”
  • “Wish I were there seeing your smiling face today. I’ll be thinking of you.”
  • “Happy Bridal Shower Day! Love you and miss you!”

Pro Tip: If you’d rather not call out the fact that you’re not there, that’s a-okay. Just stick to a simple warm wish.

Sharing Quotes

Got a favorite quote about love and marriage? Why not share it when you sign your card?

Examples

  • “‘God, the best maker of all marriages, combine your hearts in one, your realms in one.’ — Shakespeare; Wishing you all the best,”
  • “‘And the two shall become one.’ — Ephesians 5:31; Blessings,”
  • “‘Were there nothing else, For which to praise the heavens but only love… Only love were cause enough for praise.’ —Tennyson; Wishing you a lifetime of love together…”

Pro Tip: You can draw love and marriage quotations from song lyrics, poetry, Scripture, songs, movie dialogue, Pinterest, greeting cards, and more.

Warm Closings

A warm closing before your signature is like the bow on top of your message. Choose one of ours, or come up with one of your own.

Examples

  • Warmly,
  • Love,
  • With love,
  • Lots of love,
  • Love always,
  • Much love to you both,
  • Best wishes!
  • Best wishes for your life together,
  • All life’s best to the two of you,
  • Congratulations!
  • Congratulations and best wishes,
  • Warmest congratulations,
  • Gratefully,
  • Blessings,
  • God bless,
  • God bless you both,
  • God bless you now and always,
